Michael H. Cicchetti received his undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1968 and his law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1972. After several years of working in Waterbury area law firms as an associate, and then as a partner, he founded a solo practice of law, which later became the well-known and respected Waterbury law firm of Cicchetti & Tansley. Sixteen years later, in 2005, the growing law firm changed its name to the present, Cicchetti, Tansley & McGrath LLP.

Attorney Cicchetti is admitted to practice in Connecticut state and federal courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.  He is a past member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Connecticut, and a member of the Waterbury Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association.

Attorney Cicchetti has over 48 years of extensive experience representing private and governmental entities as well as countless individuals in both general business and litigation matters, and now concentrates his practice primarily in commercial real estate matters, residential real estate matters, subdivision and real estate development, management, leasing, financing, zoning and land use laws, as well as probate, trust and estate matters.  He has served as special counsel for the City of Waterbury in several matters, including litigation concerning management and use of water resources for the City’s reservoir system, the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority in single family foreclosure matters, and for the Town of Wolcott as adjunct Town Attorney.

Attorney Cicchetti is a detail-oriented attorney, who is committed to the practice of law and who works closely with his clients, still catering to many of those clients who have been with him since his career began. His extensive experience has garnered him skills not often found in his peers. He skillfully advises and assists clients in matters from start-ups to established businesses of all sizes on matters ranging from simple to complex agreements, entity formation and regulatory compliance to purchases or sales and strategic transactions, including drafting and negotiating owner agreements, agreements for buyouts, retirements and buy-sell arrangements, as well as joint venture, independent contractor, consulting, and restrictive covenant agreements.  Attorney Cicchetti has represented both buyers and sellers on multi-million dollar real estate transactions as well as more routine transactions.

Born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut, where he was an avid basketball player (Go Celtics!), he is very familiar with the greater Waterbury area and its environs. Although Waterbury will always feel like home to him, he currently resides in Litchfield, Connecticut with his wife Dianne.

Much of Attorney Cicchetti’s time is devoted to the law firm. However, he will occasionally find time to spend with his many grandchildren, or biking throughout the Litchfield hills with his wife, or vacationing on Nantucket with his ever-growing family.

Cicchetti, Tansley & McGrath LLP serves clients in Waterbury, Litchfield
and New Haven County, Connecticut.
